Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. A woman who not only dominated Indian politics but also left a unique impression on the horizon of world politics. This is the reason why she is referred to as the Iron Woman.

Mrs. Indira Gandhi was born in the Nehru family. She was the only daughter of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Today Indira Gandhi is not only known because she was the daughter of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, but Indira Gandhi will always be known in the history of 'world politics' for her talent and political fortitude.

Indira Gandhi was born on 19 November 1917 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, into a wealthy family. Her full name was- 'Indira Priyadarshini'. He also got a household name which was Indira for short. His father's name was Jawaharlal Nehru and grandfather's name was Motilal Nehru. Both father and grandfather belonged to the profession of advocacy and contributed significantly to the independence of the country. Mother's name was Kamla Nehru.

Indiraji was born in a family that was quite prosperous both financially and intellectually. He was named Indira by his grandfather Pandit Motilal Nehru. Which means Kanti, Lakshmi and Shobha. The reason behind this name was that his grandfather believed that he had got mother Lakshmi and Durga as granddaughters.

Pandit Nehru used to address her by the name of 'Priyadarshini' because of her great looks. Since Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru were the owners of very beautiful and attractive personalities, due to this, they received beauty from their parents. Indira got her 'Gandhi' surname after her marriage to Feroze Gandhi.
